Greetings all,

I am on the "7 day weekend" in other words retired....

When in the "rat race" I used to say when I turned  65yrs of age don't stand in the doorway or you could get trampled!!! as I would then qualify for the Government pension and would retire.

Well I did not take my own advice..... I had purchaced  "Gandalf"  a 35ft Hartley Queenslander ferro cement yacht a year earlier and set about restoring and upgrading her... this soon fell into the age old equation of boat fixing ... " it always takes twice as long  and costs 3 times as much" as first expected!!! so when I turned 65yrs I decided to stay working for another few years to let my bank account recover... silly me!!

along came my 68th birthday and had  some slight angina problems so on advice promptly retired and have never regretted the move for a moment... now never been so busy in my life...some days I just wonder how I ever had time to go to work!! my stress level is zero or near enough to it...

I sail "Gandalf " out of New Zealand's southern most port of Bluff  (46 deg. South) usually across Foveaux Strait to Stewart Island  or to the majestic Fiordland Sounds area ( take a look on Google Earth)  just doing what  we want to do when and where we please..the lifestyle is wonderful but the income is not so good .lol...

We fish, beach comb, bush walh etc and just enjoy this part of the world...

I am a great believer that life is just what we make of it... so now at 72ys of age I am living life to the max.. and even occasionally get to drive a 50ft charter boat mainly on day fishing trips  and some over night charters with up to 20 guests aboard.... this keeps my hand in as it were, and get paid for my efforts... some times I also get to crew on other visiting  yachts, or coastal delivery voyages.... have made many off shore blue water  trips on various vessels ...life could not be better...

I would love to live aboard more but "Her Indoors who must be obeyed" is not so keen and is a home and house person .. so most trips away are with some fishing and boating mates...  we have  a blast, eat well and just enjoy life...

Alaways keen to join discussions on yachts and boats of any type or cruising ideas and places with anyone ...

Captain Rob is right onto it... if you are thinking of a lifestyle change etc then just do it!! you will never have any regrets...

I would rather be a "has been" than a " never was at all" life is what we make of it !! get going and enjoy life to the max and that is much better done in boats,

regards,

Geedee
